The Madiran region is located in the Béarn, to the South-West of Bordeaux. Madiran wines are grown on clay and limestone hills along the left bank of the river Adour. Phillipe Mur, who was previously a wine-maker at Château d’Aydie (one of Madiran’s most famous), created Clos Basté in 1998 with 10 hectares of land, planting 5500 plants per hectare. Phillipe leaves his wine to macerate for 5 weeks in small large tanks with a capacity of 40 hectolitres and his entire wine making technique follows that of a Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux.
“Rising star Philippe Mur makes this entry-level wine (70% Tannat) for relatively early drinking.
The bouquet has an explosion of summer fruits – particularly blueberries as well as hints of autumn foliage. Intense on entry, nice structure but easy to drink with soft tannins.”
