Located in the Gard, 10km south of Lirac, the tiny village of Estezargues (384 habitants) has been dedicated to producing wine for centuries. In 1965, eight winemakers decided to create "La Cave des Vignerons" in order to share their passion for winemaking. They decided to produce wines, which are representative of the local land, using local grape varieties while respecting the environment by following a restrained viticulture "lutte raisonnee" for nearly 50 years.
Vinify without sulphites at low temperature and they neither filtrate their wines nor fining them. The resulting wines are full of fruit and sun, thanks to the warm Mediterranean weather and low yield.
Grenache 60%, Syrah 25%, Mourvèdre 10% and Carignan : 5%.
The grapes grows on the terraces on the top of a hill, the soil is the one you can find at the ancient terrace Villafranchien. Pebbles and clay gives to this soil an optimal quality.
The Domaine Grès Saint Vincent is a good representative for the local appellation Côte du Rhône Villages Signargues.
The Domaine Grès Saint Vincent has found its own identity. Softness and elegance are the main words when you want to present this wine.
In mouth you will first feel the taste of red fruits, (cherry and currant). With the time the wine develops towards a more spicy fragrance (liquorice / cinnamon). The tannins are there but soft and assure the quality of the wine.
THIS WINE IS NOT FILTERED
100% Viognier at 350 meters of altitude
50% of the wine is aged 8 months in barrels on its fine lies.
The granite soil (hence the name of the Cuvée), brings a mineral coolness to this wine which takes from its IGP appellation “vin de Pays” only the name. For sure it’s a great wine in the same league as many Condrieu.
Jancis Robinson: "Banana ice-cream and pineapple with a sweet musky character - overdelivers on the nose. Lovely buttery notes on the palate, buffed and polished to a perfectly round mouthfeel. Lighter than many Rhône Viogniers, but no dilution of flavour. Expertly done - very good." 17 points
