The Smashing Wines concept was born in Meribel, French Alpes, on one evening over Christmas 2014 Clement and Rebecca were enjoying a bottle of Chateau Haut-Brion 2005. A couple with and one huge thing in common – the love and passion of great wine! Many conversations and glasses of wine later, Smashing Wines was created.
Rebecca’s back ground has always been in the food and drink industry, running a Japanese Kitchen knife company for 7 years and then going onto become Marketing Director for the Jamie Oliver restaurant group. However it was Clement who really pushed the concept forward. Every time he visited England he would be shocked at the quality and price of wine. More so the lack of French natural wine available. Clement, from Bordeaux, grew up with great wine and he too worked in the industry, running a deli and wine shop both near Bordeaux and in Meribel before moving to England.
From day one Smashing Wines mission was to promote small, quality producers, concentrating mainly on organic and biodynamic winemakers from across France. They worked closely with a wide range of winemakers, gaining UK exclusivity on many wines to create the wine list available today.
