Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is a white-wine grape from western France, now successfully grown in emerging and established wine regions all over the world. While the grape may be more readily associated with the Loire Valley (for its pivotal role in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé), it is more likely to have originated from Bordeaux, where it is typically blended with Semillon.

In the late 20th Century, a new region began to gain a reputation as one of the great Sauvignon Blanc regions of the world: Marlborough, at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island. The rapid development of the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most dramatic events in the world of wine. The intense and readily accessible flavor of a classic Marlborough "Savvy" (as it is colloquially known in that part of the world) has captured a vast market around the globe, from the United States and Canada to the UK and northern Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2015, Sauvignon Blanc accounted for around 85% of New Zealand's wine exports.

A convergence of flavours from vineyards located on the banks of the Wairau and Awatere rivers. Harvested at optimum ripeness, the grapes were gently pressed and fermented, at cool temperatures, in stainless steel to maximise fruit purity and character. A percentage of the wine was aged on fine lees for 3 months, adding texture, complexity and increased mouth feel to the palate. 

Bright straw with golden/green hues, it has an abundance of ripe tropical fruit aromas overlaid with exotic gooseberry and an attractive herbal pungency. The palate balances great concentration with stylish elegance. Fresh, balanced and persistent flavours leading to a long mineral finish.

The grapes were thinned to one bunch per shoot to increase concentration and flavour. All leaves were removed from the fruiting zone to achieve maximum ripeness and to avoid any unripe characters. Grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed directly into 7 year old hogshead barrels, for wild fermentation. Aged on full yeast lees and stirred regularly for 10 months, with a small portion going through malolactic fermentation. 

Offers a savoury nose with aromas of lemon balm, lanolin oil and apricot kernal, combined with biscuity notes. The oak is well-integrated providing complexity and structure.

100% Sauvignon Blanc. The true spirit of one of Sancerre's top villages. This is a multi vinyard selection of vines on the Kimmeridgian limestone. Vine age is 25-30yo, and the grapes are hand harvested. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in fiberglass and cement tanks, aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks for four to six months and bottled without filtration.

100% Sauvignon Blanc. Average vine age 45yo on the famously steep slope of Monts Damnés in Chavignol. Harvested by hand (a rare sight in Sancerre these days!). The wine is fermented with native yeasts in fiberglass and cement tanks, aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks (with a small proportion of used barrel in some vintages) for 4 to 6 months and bottled without filtration.
