Until 2015 vintage, this cuvee was 100% Merlot. Now it is a blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A purple deep colour leading onto aromas of roasting cedar, then rich fruits of cherry and blackcurrant.
On the palate this wine gives an explosion of sensations, just like on the nose the aromas follow through, with an addition of pepper and liquorice.
A delicious velvety finish.
Chateau Puynormond epitomises passion, vigour, youth and patience garnered through the wealth of accumulated experience of four generations. Perched majestically on the top of an amphitheatre-shaped escarpment and over their own vines at the front of the property, the Chateau offers a wonderful view of Saint-Emilion in the distance.
The vineyard comprises of 12 hectares of vineyards in total (about 30 acres) with the majority of the vines situated on a sunny, south-facing hillside. The quality of the resulting wine benefits from Philippe's careful, attentive vineyard work including a green harvest to eliminate crop excess before the remainder of the grapes are harvested manually. The vines produce about 45 hectolitres per hectare for the 'Vielles Vignes' wine and 55hl/ha for the regular cuvee.
