Attentive vineyard work and limited yields produced to ensure the quality of the wines.
Chateau Puynormond eptomises passion, vigour, youth and patience garnered through the wealth of accumulated experience of four generations. Perched majestically on the top of an amphitheatre-shaped escarpment and over their own vines at the front of the property, the Chateau offers a wonderful view of Saint-Emilion in the distance.
The vineyard comprises of 12 hectares of vineyards in total (about 30 acres) with the majority of the cines situated on a sunny, south-facing hillside. The quality of the resulting wine benefits from Philippe's careful, attentive vineyard work including a green harvest to eliminate crop excess before the remainder of the grapes are harvested manually. The vines produce about 45 hectolitres per hectare for the 'Vielles Vignes' wine and 55hl/ha for the regular cuvee.
In the summer of 2000, the fourth generation was set up: Catherine and Philippe Lamarque (brother and sister). A new century, new ways of working! We have returned to working the soil and limiting yields in order to increase the quality of our wines.
Our partnership with Nicolas Guichard (oenologist) allows us to make wines with respect for the fruit and to always seek to make fine and elegant wines. It allowed us to discover new coopers. The small artisanal cooperages with limited production have the concern to find the most qualitative oaks to marry the tannins of the wood with our wines.
